Walking Business Coach Jackie Jarvis shares ways to bring walking into your working day.

Could you Walk whilst you Work?

Working from home, tied to your computer screen or your phone can be tiring mentally, physically, and emotionally.  Inside, online with few breaks will eventually take its toll.

You may find yourself mentally exhausted at the end of yet another intense day. As the days pass it could be getting harder to come up with fresh ideas, to be creative and problem solve. Your brain may feel clogged up, like it needs to take a deep breath of fresh air.

Could Walking whilst you Work Help?

Research and Science proves that daily walking aids mental and emotional wellbeing, stimulates our creativity, helps deal with the negative impact of stress and boosts our health.

I would call Walking one of my best friends, as well as a great business partner.  Walking just wakes my brain and my body up in a way that I just cannot get from sitting at my PC hour after hour.

I regularly take Work with me on a Walk. It gets the best out of me.

Here are 7 Ways to Bring Walking and Work Together

1. Walk and Talk Virtual Meeting

Instead of zoom have a walk and talk meeting on the phone or you can even start and finish on WhatsApp with a coffee whilst you write the outputs up. This could be used a business meeting or networking session.

2. Walk and Plan a Strategy

Record your ideas whilst you go. Otter is a good recording tool to have on your phone.

3. Walk and Learn

Do your Self and Business Development whilst you walk, Listen to an audio book, Ted Talk or Business-related recording.

4. Walk and Coach

Arrange to meet up with local employees for their reviews and coaching sessions. This could be done together or virtually. Virtually is when you both put on your walking boots and walk at the same time whilst talking on the phone.

5. Walk and Brainstorm

Go out with a specific question in mind and just let the ideas flow. You could record ideas as you go or stop part way round your walk for a coffee and get them written up.

6. Walking Business SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats)

From time to time it is a good idea to work through a SWOT on your business. It is an easy thing to do whilst walking. Ideal if you have a coach to guide you through the process and facilitate your thinking but it can also be done alone.

7. Walk and Create a Vision and a Plan

Walking is a powerful way to aid thinking and the expression of what you want.

I often walk and imagine what I would ideally like to see appearing on my path in business.

As I am doing this, I see my vision, as a movie, as if it were happening right now.

Once a vision has been created, it is important to plan the steps needed to make it a reality.

The steps can also be mapped out as you walk, setting up milestones on the way. This can be a powerful exercise to do with a coach, leaving you able to let your mind go free.

Walk, Talk, Plan and Review Gets Results

As a walking business coach, I have walked and talked with many business owners and professionals and have been pleased to see how much of what they all talked about wanting became a reality. Very quickly I might add.
